Mumbai: The horror-comedy blockbuster Stree 2: Sarkate Ka Aatank, starring Rajkummar Rao and Shraddha Kapoor, has rewritten Bollywood’s box office history, crossing ₹600 crore in worldwide gross in just seven days of its release, making it the fastest Hindi film to achieve this milestone and India’s fifth-highest-grossing film of all time.

Produced by Dinesh Vijan’s Maddock Films and directed by Amar Kaushik, the sequel to the 2018 cult hit Stree has outperformed all expectations. It opened to ₹67 crore on its first day, surpassing the opening day collection of Shah Rukh Khan’s Jawan, and maintained extraordinary momentum through the week due to strong word-of-mouth, repeat viewership, and a surprise A-list cameo that social media could not stop talking about.

Trade analyst Taran Adarsh described the film’s performance as “once-in-a-decade box office phenomenon,” noting that it was rare for a mid-budget, non-franchise film to sustain such numbers beyond the opening weekend. “Stree 2 has broken the myth that only ₹300 crore+ budgeted films can cross ₹600 crore. This is a ₹100 crore film that has delivered a ₹600 crore return — unheard of,” he wrote on X (formerly Twitter).

Shraddha Kapoor, who plays the mysterious titular character, said she was “overwhelmed” by the audience response and called it “the most special film of her career.” Rajkummar Rao said he had known the script was special from the moment he read it, but admitted even he was stunned by the scale of the commercial success.

The film has also done exceptionally well in overseas markets, particularly in the UAE, USA, UK, and Australia, where the Indian diaspora turned out in record numbers. The overseas collection for the first week stands at approximately ₹85 crore.

Maddock Films has already announced Stree 3 is in development, though producers Dinesh Vijan and Shraddha Kapoor declined to share a timeline or cast details. The Stree universe, which includes Bhediya and Munjya, has now collectively grossed over ₹1,500 crore worldwide.
